Let the Scandal begin!  Olivia Pope is the best manager of crisis in Washington D.C. A title earned first by getting an underdog candidate elected President. What makes Olivia Pope the best is that she doesn’t fix problems. She fixes clients through facts about a person’s life that can be used as leverage to influence a situation. You find her high profile clients coming to her at their lowest moment. At the lowest point of their life when it can’t get any worse (i.e. Michael Vick, Monica Lewinski, Bill Clinton, Tiger Woods…). Olivia not only fix crisis and scandal but is neatly wrapped in one of her own in the first episode. Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) dedicates her life to protecting the public images of the nation’s elite and making sure their secrets never get out. Olivia is a former White House communications director for the President, but has left to start her own crisis management firm, Olivia Pope and Associates. She is hoping to begin a new chapter of her life, but is finding out that she cannot leave parts of her past behind.

Olivia Pope and Associates staff includes Stephen Finch (Henry Ian Cusick), a womanizer considering settling down, Harrison Wright (Columbus Short), a smooth and efficient litigator, Abby Whelan, (Darby Stanchfield), the firm’s investigator, Huck (Guillermo Diaz), a hacker with a CIA past, and Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes), a fresh faced lawyer quickly learning the world of crisis management. Kerry Washington starring in Scandal is notable for being, by a couple reports’ estimation, the first major broadcast drama series to star a black woman in about 30 years. The series was created by Shonda Rhimes. Seven episodes will be produced for the first season. Washington’s character Olivia Pope is partially based on former George H.W. Bush administration press aide Judy Smith.

On Thursday, April 5, 2012, Shonda Rhimes’ new series premiered to 7.4 million viewers and a 2.1 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, putting it on par with Private Practice’s performance in The show did post the best retention (91 percent) out of Grey’s Anatomy since February 2009 and the best audience retention ever in the hour for a non-Grey’s-Practice crossover episode.
